Make clean archives for Windows on a Mac

Creating ZIP archives on a MAC with the default OS X archiver (ctrl or right-click, create archive) puts files not visible on the MAC (namely .DS_Store and Iconr files) in the ZIP alongside the actual files you want to compress. This looks confusing on the PC and can cause problems with the Windows software for opening / expanding large ZIP files, making the software crash or give out error messages.

So creating ZIP files I want to send to PC / Windows systems I now use a little application called CleanArchiver, - this does the job with drag and drop ease.

CleanArchiver lets you choose what kind of archives you want to make: gzip, bzip2, zip, Disk Image, Stuffit, Stuffit X.
ZIP is the most common method.
