Great Radio with Mickey Bradley (Undertones)

BBC Radio Ulster: After Midnight with Mickey Team
Great stuff! Take a listen on BBC Northern Ireland: www.bbc.co.uk
On Thursday nights, hear Mickey Bradley of the Undertones, bring musical anarchy to the airwaves with his weekly music series dedicated to punk rock classics. Playing the Ramones to the Clash.
From bbc.co.uk
About Mickey Bradley
Mickey Bradley joined Northern Ireland's most famous punk rockers The Undertones in 1975 while at school. Mickey is bassist with the band, who are perhaps best known for their hit Teenage Kicks, which was famously John Peel's favourite song.
When the band originally split up in 1983, Mickey worked as a bicycle courier in
London before returning to his native Londonderry in 1986, playing records on
BBC Radio Foyle before becoming a radio producer.
Over the years, Mickey has produced everything from Hugo Duncan's outside broadcasts to political debates.
Mickey has been back with The Undertones for many years now and still plays with them sporadically. He is married with four children.

Internet Radio
Got this new Internet radio as a present. It's a pretty cool device that lets you listen to Internet radio without having to use a computer. There's a couple of thousand radio stations pre-configured, so on wednesday you can listen to a station from Nigeria and on thursday to a station from Costa Rica - or so. If your favorite station isn't pre-configured, you can add it yourself manually, provided the station streams in MP3 or WMV as the device does not support Real Audio - and that's the big downside. You can listen to BBC Five Live for example, but not to the very popular BBC World Service. Still there's over 9000 stations listed on the website that lets you add stations to your Radio. The device is called NOXION iRadio. In Switzerland it is sold pre-configured by Swisscom/Bluewin so you have a lot of Swiss radio stations pre installed (makes sense if you live in Switzerland). This thing is useful, if you don't wont to have your computer running to stream radio or if you want to discover radio stations from all around the world. Otherwise an Airport Express may serve you better.
The speaker is pretty bad, so it's worth connecting external speakers to the radio.
The cost is around CHFr. 260.- The device connects to your Internet wirelessly or via ethernet cable.
John Kelly on Lyric Radio (Ireland)
I wrote about John Kelly and the end of our favourite radio show a good while ago. John Kelly is now back on air on Lyric fm in Ireland (and online). «Lyric» is RTE's station for Classical music, thus John Kelly's programme «The JK Ensemble» now features quite a lot of Classical and hardly any Rock music. The programme is still pretty eclectic though, with Jazz, Folk, World, Blues and Movie Scores mixed with the classical. It's different but still a very good programme, just a tad mellow maybe.

- A lot of the Mystery Train Shows are still online HERE

«Outlook» - another excellent BBC programme
On friday I was listening to the BBC World Service programme called «Outlook», where the presenter spoke with an artist living in Beirut. It was very interesting, as she spoke about the daily routines in a city not so different from ours, that have been made impossible by the war. Things like going for a weekly cancer treatment or printing work papers... I hadn't really thought about this aspect of war, yet it is what is the most touching because it is stuff we do day in day out, taking it for granted – and we already freak out if we don't have network coverage for our mobile phones for a minute or two. It is easier to look away, when the media coverage presents victims covered in blood and homes get bombed.
"Heather Payton speaks to thirty year old artist Zena, who's lived in Beirut for the last twelve years, to ask her how her home has changed over the last few weeks."
In Memoriam
Oh no!!! RTE stopped our favorite radio show The Mystery Train with John Kelly. That is sooo sad!!
We only recently made a mix in his honour and now it all has a whole different meaning... We'll miss The Mysterytrain dearly. The mix «Radio Bundlebit» is still available HERE. First John Peel dies and then John Kelly's programme just stops. Ach hell, - where's the good news in radio? Let us know if you come across any good programmes... although I doubt anything can step in to the gap the Mystery Train leaves behind.
There's lots of people out there that feel similar about the end of the Mystery Train, -here's an example on www.tuppenceworth.ie
There's an archive of shows is available on the Mystery Train website.
On the last show on July 13th 2006 John's friend Elvis Costello phoned in to say goodbye and such... He also said that the RTE probably didn't know, that lots of people from all over the world listen in OVER THE INTERNET... I'm sure thats true. We did! From Switzerland all the time...
Bono from U2 also called in to say goodbye... funny. I think he was drunk ;-) called in from France... the wine... I'm on my way to get drunk for all this...
John Kelly will host a new programme on Irish Lyric FM, which should also be available on the Internet.... We'll keep you posted.
Anyhow, all our best thoughts go out to John Kelly and his new born twins ;-) good luck and a huge thank you!!!

The Bundlebit Sound Volume 2 now available!
«Radio Bundlebit» - The Bundlebit Sound Vol. 2 is finally ready and available for download via this link right HERE (the file is 105.8 MB in size).
It's a selection of some of our favorite tunes, recorded straight off beautiful black vinyl records. The mix features the likes of: Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Sonny Terry & Brownie Mc Ghee, Lalo Schifrin, Yusef Lateef, Nina Simone, Bill Withers, The White Stripes, Baby Huey, Ms Dynamite, Quincy Jones, Gene Vincent, The Andrew Sisters, Patsy Cline, Bob Marley & Lee Scratch Perry, The Beta Band and The Gossip.
It is a homage to our favorite radio DJ John Kelly and his show «Mystery Train» on RTE. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
